Pitmedden Garden

Pitmedden Garden- National Trust for Scotland

Re-created Scottish Renaissance walled garden with unique and vibrant floral designs.

Be amazed at over 30,000 annual bedding plants that make up the colourful designs in the parterres.

Visit the Museum of Farming Life, which brings the agricultural past to life.

Don’t miss our award-winning tearoom, which offers home baking and light lunches.

The gift shop has a great selection of gifts, as well as seasonal garden produce when available.

Explore the woodlands around the garden on the way-marked trails.

With almost 6 miles of clipped box hedging, the parterres at the heart of the garden are a masterpiece of intricate patterns and sparkling colours. The Great Garden dates back to 1675, when it was originally laid out by Sir Alexander Seton. In the 1950s the Trust re-created the garden based on 17th-century plans of the gardens at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh.

"These are for sure the greatest and most awesome walled gardens we ever visited. Great for the design, for the patterns, for the bright themed colours. The fountain in the center is a gentle touch. The fire gardens, savvily ornate with minimal sculpture are the perfect appetiser to enjoy the flamboyance of the main garden. All along the walls countless species of flowers and apple trees. An experience not only for flower lovers."
