The award-winning Grampian Transport Museum boasts an impressive range of transport exhibits, from travelling chariots of the 1800’s to some of the fastest cars ever made.

The museum is a living museum that probes the past, present and future.

Many exhibits are climb aboard, hands on and even ride on!

Grampian Transport Museum can trace its history back to the early 1970s when a number of local enthusiasts became conscious of the fact that there was a very active interest in historic transport in the North East of Scotland. They began to discuss the possibilities of establishing a permanent museum of transport to focus this interest and energy.

With a lot of hard work and effort, the museum was born and now the exhibits are updated every year during the closed season, providing a wide range of new and exciting things for visitors to see each year.

There are always fun quizzes and trails for younger visitors to enjoy inside the museum.

Outside, the front lawn – complete with distinctive red phone box and the Birkhall Steam Engine – is a great place to enjoy a picnic while the kids let off steam in the play park.

The Museum also has the Travellers Rest Tea Room and is home to a Visitor Information Centre for the area.

The Museum & the Collections Centre buildings are 100% wheelchair accessible. The doors within the museum are fully accessible to wheelchairs. There is also a wheelchair available at reception for visitor use.

Museum parking is extensive and free with several dedicated disabled spots. The car park also has several large spaces suitable for bus and coach parking.

Electric Vehicle Charging Points – On the museum site if the public sites are unavailable they have a 30 amp supply available for museum visitors.
