Aberdeen Performing Arts

His Majesty's Theatre - Aberdeen Performing Arts

His Majesty’s Theatre is one of only two so named in the world.

It’s an opulent, awe-inspiring Frank Matcham designed theatre, a national treasure, with a breathtaking auditorium described by Billy Connolly as “like playing a gig inside a wedding cake!”

On stage at HMT they bring Broadway and the West End to the North-east with award winning musical theatre, internationally renowned contemporary dance and acclaimed stage plays.

HMT is also proud to be Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera’s home in the North-east.

  • HMT has a total capacity of 1,491 across four levels
  • Its own restaurant 1906 where you can enjoy lunch or a pre-theatre supper
  • Or delicious lighter bites at the 1906 Cafe
  • Over the years HMT has seen performances from luminaries such as Charlton Heston, Sir Ian McKellan, Sean Connery, Erroll Flynn, Noel Coward, Alec Guinness, Vivien Leigh and rock legend Brian May
  • The theatre has its own resident ghost. Jake is thought to roam the corridors of the theatre and was said to be a stage hand that died in an accident in the backstage area.

1906 Restaurant for a pre-theatre dining experience.  Choose from a fantastic selection of starters, platters, mains and desserts expertly prepared.

1906 Cafe is the ideal place to relax for sweet treats, home bakes and the perfect cup of coffee. Unwind in Aberdeen’s only theatre café and enjoy the views across the city centre’s wonderful Victorian park and a glorious terraced vista of fine granite buildings.

"We attended the opening night of We will rock you, this was the fourth time I have seen this show and each time it has followed a slightly different but up to date script. Last nights performance was simply fantastic, from the set, graphics, acting, singing and most importantly the music, it was superb. I've never seen His Majesties Theatre come alive like that, a brilliantly exhilarating experience so very WELL DONE to everyone involved, you did 'Queen' proud, if only Freddie knew how he has touched us all!."
